Development of Holistic, Healthy & Intelligent Clothing Cosset for Pre, Peri, Postnatal Mother & Infant

“Mother” a sweet word, which has infinite meaning, is the nature or creations. Providing the most intrinsic necessities for the mother and infant should be the one of the highest priorities for modern humanity, as we are living in polluted and deteriorated present hygienic situations. Ayurvastra or medicinal dress developed by using medicinal plant extracts diminishes the emotional turmoil of a mother, provides healing and boost the hypothalamus of a brain and helps in secretion of happiness feeling hormones. Sensor based intelligent fabric having electrical conductivity, sensing capabilities and data transmission will be developed by using materials as metallic, optical fibres and conductive polymers. As research highlights on fabrication and construction of innovative, holistic intelligent clothing for mother and infant by multidisciplinary approach of knowledge, ideas and conception the novelty of present research will be further researched for various other applications – special need categories e.g., disabled children, adults, old ages, patients, military, clothing etc. Commercialization of the research will be done through many brands as Ayurvastra, Cosmo textiles, Smart textiles etc.

From the moment of conception, mother starts to grasp the love, beauty, emotions, and feelings of a new creation with in her. Major transformations starts taking place within her body both internally and externally. The entire process starting from prenatal, perinatal and postnatal phase is a huge metamorphosis and is new birth both for mother and a baby. So, this drastic shift in her body needs special care in terms of food, clothing, emotional and physical protection, health and hygiene, comfort and relaxation etc. Providing the most intrinsic necessities for the mother and infant should be the one of the highest priorities for modern humanity, as we are living in polluted and deteriorated present hygienic situations. Research in this direction is highlighted to provide healthy, protective, intelligent and comfortable clothing cosset for pre, peri, postnatal mother and infant. Genius expected infant can be protected by this developed clothing which is medicinal, aromatic, soothing, comfort and smart.
Natural, eco-friendly plant extracts are self-healing and used for various skin treatments, health disorders which usually occurs by usage of harmful synthetic textiles, dyes and chemicals. The body of the wearer will have cooling effect, sooths the sensitivity of skin and balance the body system . The Ayurvastra is mainly used based on touch which is infused with natural goodness from plants for hygiene and comfort ability. Comfort is affected here especially tactile response of the skin, body heat transfer by conduction, convection and radiation. Moisture transfer usually happens by diffusion, sorption, wicking and evaporation. The presence of air between the skin and fabric layers makes the wearer uncomfortable. Protective and thermal clothing provides comfort to the wearer. The thermal comfort, sensorial comfort and body movement comfort in the clothing are the three aspects of comfort. Posture support and abdominal support should be provided through clothing for pre, peri and post-natal mother .

As a result, the bondage between the mother and a baby will be more intuitive and energetic. Happy mother is capable of transforming the possibilities within her into reality through her inner creativeness to outer actuality. This is very essential in overall development of a mankind, nation and a holistic world view. The sight, fragrance, sound and feel exposed by the mother and baby plays a vital role in overall development. Modern neuroscientist says that perinatal care is most important as there is radical changes takes place in this span of life period. Sensor based smart or intelligent textiles can sense, touch and adopt themselves to various circumstances 
The pre, peri and postnatal period is a critical phase in lives of mothers and Infant. Specially designed and engineered clothing is necessary to meet the requirements of changes happening in body shape and skin sensitivity. As this is the most important phase proper care during this time prevents many problems of later period. Holistic care of mother in terms of physical, mental and social wellbeing with proper clothing is very necessary. Many health-related disorders such as dermatitis and skin carcinogenicity usually occurs due to usage of synthetic textiles, finishing process, chemicals and dyes can be prevented by using Ayurvastra clothing . In the present research, intelligent clothing is manufactured by designing and developing health monitoring, safety technical textiles with integration and validation of appropriate data based on different functionality. The clothing and accessories records the sensor data, force and pressure. This data helps in further initiation to be taken as per the need integration with material processing, sensor and digital technology sector.
The main research rationale is to provide holistic, smart clothing cosset for pre, peri, postnatal mother and infant by incorporating the following innovative technologies in the fabric development and in fashion production.
Holistic Healthy, Protective and comfortable - made by using medicinal, aromatic, anti-microbial, eco- friendly plant extracts for intimate wear and inner layer fabric. Protection is provided by weaving, Nano encapsulating high strength fibres into light weight fabrics as outer layer
Intelligent- made by active smart textiles with actuators and sensors embedded within for performing intended functions in the form of accessories
Clothing/ Fashion Production – Innovative designs in pleats, frills, gathers, smoking, trimmings, construction methods and creations.
It is hypothesized that the developed clothing is Holistic and Healthier as well as Intelligent. The developed clothing is Holistic and Healthier due to presence of stable micro climate, eco- friendly, soothing, healing and aromatic in intimate or inner layer wear worn next to skin and environmental hazards protection from thermal, electrical, chemical, cold and mechanical worn as outer layer. The developed clothing is intelligent due to the presence of communication within the cloth for personal safety and monitoring of health factors.
Experimental Plans/ New Technology
Development of Holistic and Healthier Clothing- Ayurvastra – Inner layer/ Intimate wear and Protective Comfortable Outer Layer
The knitted cotton fabric will be treated with eucalyptus oil, medicinal plant extract and other fragrance treatment by transdermal and micro encapsulation techniques.
Stable and durable Nano droplets of the plant extracts or product to be applied as aromatic substance, deionizers, and vitamins, medicinal are made into micro capsules of diameter of 1m. This is applied on knitted cotton fabric with dip, pad, dry and cure techniques .
Eco-friendly dyes as Annatto, Mehndi, and Turmeric are applied as coloring so that substance moves from outer surface to the inner surface establishing the feeling of happiness and emotions through sense of touch boosting the hypothalamus of the brain .
Outer layer fabric is made by using nano web layers as lining with nano encapsulated polyester fabric for protection and thermal comfort. The developed fabric will have breathability which allows air to circulate around the body.
Development of Intelligent Fabrics
Sensor based intelligent fabric having electrical conductivity, sensing capabilities and data transmission will be developed by using materials as metallic, optical fibres and conductive polymers. Conductive fibres are manufactured by bundle drawing process where in copper metal wires are drawn are coated with another metal which will with stand further drawing process to obtain the required diameter of fibre 8 mm at 600 to 900°C temperature and they are quenched. The fine metal wire is then wrapped onto a revolving wire drawing cylinder Conductive core spun yarns are manufactured by open end friction spinning process.
Conductive polymer and Nano particles are blended together to form suitable sensors. The conductive yarn grid and sensors are integrated by weaving process. Then the specific areas of fabric is screen printed with conductive ink paste made of polyurethane as interface layer and silver paste as conductive encapsulation layer which is used as switches for activation of circuits. The resultant fabric can perform various tasks as per the sensor attached such as monitoring for electrocardiogram (ECG) signals, respiratory, therapeutic, bio sensing, physical activity etc..
Development of Clothing and Accessories
Designing and construction of functional performance-based clothing and accessories for mother and child for enhancing body aesthetics, utility and comfort such as intimate wear, different dresses, waist belts, vests, bibs, towels, jacket, gloves.
Tests to be Performed
Shrinkage test, dimension test, wash fastness test, air permeability test, The permeability of fabrics to air, co – efficient friction test, liquid chemical agent test, agar diffusion test and wear study test

Knitted cotton fabric processing parameters as dyeing time, temperature, pH, dye concentration, material extraction, mordanting techniques, mordanting methods, test reports for wash, light, perspiration, U V protection, K/S values and color measurements- tables and figures
Evaluation procedures and test results for various functional properties such as antibacterial , aromatic and comfort parameters
Intelligent fabric data are pertaining to calibration, denoising, sensor-level data fusion, A/D conversion and amplification and specialized algorithms
Wear study analysis report for the clothing and accessories and acceptance factor study with suitable statistical analysis
As research highlights on fabrication and construction of innovative, holistic intelligent clothing for mother and infant by multidisciplinary approach of knowledge, ideas and conception the novelty of present research will be further researched for various other applications – special need categories e.g., disabled children, adults, old ages, patients, military, clothing etc. Commercialization of the research will be done through many brands as Ayurvastra, Cosmo textiles, Smart textiles etc. so that the research will benefit the majority of “special need” category people. Healing fabrics can be developed for various health diseases by using herbal drugs with different dyeing, mordanting, coating and liposomic techniques. The developed clothing will be successful as it meets the most essential requirements of the pre, peri and post-natal mother and Infant.
